Frank Stella's Sack

Salto nel Mio Sacco — Italian for “Jump Into My Sack” — is Frank Stella’s sprawling hybrid painting and sculpture that dominates the atrium lobby of Citi Corp Center on Lexington Avenue. The glass-enclosed lobby makes the piece visible from the street, but it rewards a closer look from inside. The building is busy enough that slipping in rarely draws a second glance.

The work is especially striking at night, when the glass facade turns the lobby into a lit box and the piece comes into full relief against the dark street outside.

Citi Corp Center is also LEED-EB Silver certified for sustainable energy efficiency — a notable distinction for a Manhattan tower of its scale.
